Joe wilson is a coast salish artist. I have copied information about joe wilson and what salmon means to the cowichan band. The box only was made in taiwan per label. I believe that the container was used to ship salmon. The painting is gorgeous and the condition is excellent.

C. eH is basically self-taught, although he has worked under the guidance of tim paul, simon charlie and jim gilbert.
He has studied salish art extensively through literature & museum collections. Joe is actively involved in the winter dance ceremonies of his people.
He currently resides on the tsartlip reserve near victoria where he continues to paint & carve cedar. Teh thunderbird and killerwhale figure prominently in salish legend. One such elgend tells of the salish people's great dependence on the salmon. One day the killerwhale swam into the bay and hte salmon were scared away. It was not long before the people began to starve and called out to the thunderbird for help. The thunderbird swooped down and grabbing the killerwhale in his claws, carried him out to sea. The salmon returned and the people were no longer hungry. Payment payment must be made within 7 days of the end of the auction.
